According to DTI, a business name refers to any name that is different from the true name of an individual which is used or signed in connection with his/her business on any written or printed receipts, evidence of any agreement of business transaction, and any sign or billboard conspicuously exhibited in plain view in, or at the place of his/her business or elsewhere announcing his/her business.

Registering your business lets you check whether the name you want is unique or already in use by another existing trademark or company.

How to register a business name in DTI

Go to DTI's Business Name Registration website

Provide the needed information

Fill in the owner information then choose the territorial scope of your business (national, regional, city/municipality, barangay). Territorial scope refers to the extent of the geographical area within which the pertinent business may locate its offices, stores, shops, branches, manufacturing or processing plants, or other business structures, or where the relevant business name may be used without prejudice to engaging in business elsewhere. It is not to be considered as the geographical limit in which to transact business. Also, indicate your region, city/municipality, and barangay, as well as your Dominant Name and the Business Name Descriptor (this can be searched in the system)

Check your business name availability

Click Check Name Availability to know if your preferred business name is still available.
